Well, I figured I'd update you all on my ich battle. It's getting worse and worse. Feeding minced garlic and raising the temp a bit didn't seem to be helping. I got a cleaner shrimp a week ago, but my gramma refused to let it come near him. So I took the shrimp back last night, and am going with the hyposalinity method. I've done 2 of 4 water changes so far. I hope this does the trick, 'cause I really want this crap out of my tank now!
Oh, and to further add to my great weekend, I found out that the deal on the house we were buying just fell through. Happy Memorial Day everyone. |

If your fish are still eating try to feed them food soaked in zoe or some other type of suppliment. The zoe will keep their immunity up and if you can raise their health eventually you can outlive the ick cycle. At least thats how i won the battle.

Penguin,
I have read several pieces of information regarding a product called "Kick Ick" by Ruby Reef. It's available from Premium Aquatics. The testimonials I've read indicate it's nothing short of a miracle for eliminating Ich...and it's reef safe. FWIW ------------------ One Ring to rule them all. One Ring to find them. One Ring to bring them all, and in The Darkness bind them. Tahoereefs.com |

In addition to the Kick-Ich is a product called No-Ich by Fish Vet. Works great in a reef tank. I took a longer treatment time with it and was able to save half of my fish (took two weeks to find a place to get it) Can't find the vendor on line at the moment but when I heard aobut it just did a search with the name and got it...I think that petswarehouse may have it. Did not loose any corals did have to shorten the light cycle and turn off skimmer during treatment. Good luck.

Thanks for the info on the meds. I haven't seen either of those for sale at the LFS. Fortunately my fish is still eating fine, and I have been soaking food in Zoecon. He looks a little better than he did this morning. Hopefully he's turning the corner.

I have used the ruby reef kick ick with great results, about a 2 week treatment. Haven't seen a single trace if it since. HTH

unfortunately I think ich is nearly impossible to get rid of forever in a reef tank. Usually it doesn't cause major problems unless the fish are stressed and their immune system lowered. You might try another type of cleaner organism - perhaps the gramma and the shrimp are not from the same part of the world and aren't familiar with each other. You might try a neon goby (gobiasoma family). Good luck!!
