Hey people... how do u clean / prepare coral sand from the beach b4 putting it into ur reef tank? i just got some from nearby... fresh, wet n stinks... its not dry beach sand, but actual coral sand from the sea during low tide...
Do i need to wash it, sun it, boil it, disinfect it some how? Thanks in advance... |

Depends on your preferance...
Some would suggest that the things living currently in the sand would be great for your tank. Of course to reduce the chance of parasites or other undesirable animals, you would want to dry the sand in the sun for a couple of weeks, occasionally turning it and rinsing with clean water. However if it currently stinks that suggests that it is either polluted, or everything living in it is rapidly dieing, so you may have already decided what direction you will be going. ------------------ Mark Play Well |
