Green brittlestar
I bought a green brittle star a few months ago before I knew they had a tendancy to eat sleeping fish. He's grown quite large and although he's cool looking I think I need to get rid of him. Would a LFS take him? or should I build a special refugium for him and other future outcasts? Or maybe there are other alternatives...?
Thanks in advance! |

Depends on your area, but there is bound to be a LFS that would take him. I know of several in my area that would. Post on the trading area, someone in your area may view the board and be willing to take it off your hands.
I have two in my tank, I've never had them eat sleeping fish, but I don't have any fish that sleep in a manner that would lead them to getting eaten by the stars. They have eaten some of my Xenia on occasion which is a minor irritation; but I've noticed their tendancy to eat everything drops when you actually feed them. The more you can feed them, the less predatory they will tend to be. If you've got a sump, you can toss it down in it and the star will do a good job of keeping it clean. Most people I talk to think they are not reef safe but I've enjoyed having mine in my reef. |
