Post I'm happy tonight, feeling reasssured

Today I went out planning to go crabbing/and catching shrimp. Well, what bumbed me out was crabbing season is closed, and i didn't know about it until after I got everythign ready. So off I went shrimping. Caught a bunch, and went home to my parents. Took about 5 with me home since I wanted to feed my corals directly this time.

This IS my first attempt at actually direct feeding my corals/anemones. I took the shell off and just gave a 1/2 inch piece to my Fiji green bubble and my regular bubble tip anemone and also gave a bite to my green open brain coral. I felt relieved after that, watching the anemones/and the open brain engulf the pieces slowly.

The shrimp is the Pacific dock/coonstripe shrimp. This is really handy now, because i can get a bunch, save them and just thaw them out when feeding corals. Well, when I was feeding my regular bubble tip anemone, and the anemone closed up to a ball, my coral banded shrimp came along and started to PULL OUT the shrimp that was partially inside the closed anemone!!! This made me mad....so i used my hand and gave him a piece too.....

So i'm feeling good tonight. My question now is, how often do I feed my anemone and corals??

    Regards,
    Ilham

    Well,

I just finished my section on "Feeding" in my Coral Biology class. Photosynthesis provides mostly for maintaining metabolism(Carbon and Nitrogen by way of the Zooxanthellae). Zooplankton, POM(Particulate Organic Matter), DOM(Dissolved Organic Matter), and bacteria provide for tissue growth, and repair. In an aquarium there typically exists ALOT of DOM and POM. So, you certainly don't need to feed daily as long as your critters are getting enough light.

I target feed my hermatypic corals(photosynthetic) about once or twice a week. Ahermatypic is another story. HTH
