Howdy folks - just thought I'd pass this info along. Read these two threads(actually a link to the second is embedded in the first link):
http://www.reefcentral.com/vbulletin...threadid=24297 http://www.reefcentral.com/vbulletin...threadid=16980 My elegance has been acting funny for the past couple of months. It's been receding and even coming out of it's skeleton a little on one end. Well a few days ago I noticed something weird that was apparently being eaten by the coral. I found the the remains of a small critter in the folds of the coral. It looks like the critter in these pics: http://homepages.about.com/reefguy/reefpics/ . Well - it may have been a molt - because I noticed a small round "knot" in the skeleton of the coral last night. Apparently this shrimp burrows some how into the coral, causing it to recede and expose the skeleton. It's flat head serves as a camaflauged "cap". It's very effective - if you don't know what you're looking for you WILL miss it. I'm not sure if it actually eats the coral, or just hides out there, so to speak. I'm going to remove the little bugger today. The only two I'm aware of were found in elegance corals - not sure if this is the only coral they will attack or not. Just thought I'd pass this on. ------------------ I didn't do it. Nobody saw me do it. You can't prove anything. Website [This message has been edited by ravenmore (edited 05-28-2001).] |
