Question clam reccomendation?

Hello,

I've got a 12G with 64W of PC lighting that i'd like to put a clam into. I have a 29G with a 175W halide i could move it into later in time when it grows too big. I was wondering if anybody had any suggestions as to which clam i should get, if any at all. My best guess is squamosa, because maxima and crocea need more lighting, and dersa gets to big too fast. So I guess my question is really could i succesfully keep a squamosa?

Thanks,
Todd

Very Good question Todd!

I cant really say Yes or No on this, maybe Ninong can give you a bit more input IMO you could probably get it to live but would it be Happy would be the ultimate question, I would say NO it would not be happy....but if you do decide to go with one I think the 29gal with the MH is the best bet.

The squamosa get quite large also. Yes, it can be done but just because it can be done doesn't mean it should. Why don't you put a T. Maxima in your 29 gallon? A 175 watt MH is sufficient for a maxima.

Squamosa will get larger faster than a Derasa in my experience. JME..

Hello,

I already have a maxima in my 29G. In this case I am specifically looking to drop a clam into the 12. Thanks for the replies.

Todd,
The Crocea will be the smallest of the clams but I don't think its a good idea to put a clam in a 12 gal tank......Keeping up the Calcium level may be hard to do

Do you all agree that 62W of PC is too little lighting for a crocea even if its high on the rocks?

Todd, IMO that is not enough lighting for a crocea.
