Angry Can someone please help!

Hello,

Here is my problem AIPTASIAS these pest are driving me crazy! I am to the point of disassembling the tank if I can't find away to get rid of them. This is what I have tried so far. Injecting with boiling hot water, hot pasty kalk, a product called STOP AIPTASIA it works if you can inject them but not an easy task! Someone once told me that atlantic pepermint shrimp will eat them! Is this true or not true? If true will they leave all my corals alone? and how many can I put in my 200 gal tank?

Please help,

Hi VTec!

I have heard a mixed review with peppermint shrimp as a natural predator for aiptasia about 50/50, but from what I Have seen with the ppl that do have success they usually put 6+ starved peppermints in to tackle the problem. Also be carefull that you dont buy Camel shrimps as they can look very much like a peppermint shrimp...the camels have a hump like back. I Have one big aiptasia in my tank and usually hot kalk paste works but with this big one I have in my tank it didnt. I might try 3-4 peppermints but I would rather not, cuz I have one CBS and 2 skunk cleaners and I really dont want any other shrimps in my tank. Lemme know if it works for ya....also from what I hear is that if they arent real big aiptasias the shrimp are more likely to eat them

Thanks Scuba!

I only have about six or seven small ones and one med' sized one left. I have been battling these stupid thing for almost two years now. I will try hot pasty kalk one more time befor I add shrimp.
If I do add the pepermint shrimp, can I add any others?

Thanks again,

Hey try to actually penetrate the aiptasias when you inject...dont just squirt it near their mouth. I think its a 50/50 chance mixing peppermints w/other shrimp....I have heard of ppl haveing success with them and others not....I have tried peppermints before (2-3) when I had a small outbreak in my 90 and after a week or so they where MIA I had 1 Skunk cleaner at the time...I dont think it killed the peppermints though, but im not sure.

GO with the peppermints. They are not harmful as far as I know. I have had them in the past with no problem. I have had them with cleaners, CBS, and camel backs all at the same time. And if you have a hungry toadfish....
