High PH out of RO/DI
I have a number of questions I'm hoping someone can help me with:
1. Is it normal to get high PH out of RO/DI unit? I measured and recalibrated (Hanna) and did a manual test and all showed a PH of 9.2 straight out of the unit. This has lead to an extremly high 8.8 in my tank. 2. Not having a great understanding of PH (even tho I've read a number of things on it), what would the best way be to lower it? 3. Also, I always thought that PH was a measure of acidity vs. alkalinity, but I notice everyone measures for Alk and PH seperately...why, if its opposite ends of the same thing? Maybe there's a good book on this that someone can point me to....for instance "reef chemistry for dummies" or something.. Thanks Kev |

anyone?
Maybe I should post the question a different way.....pH is one of the least important readings to take. If alkalinity is correct, then pH will also be correct, making the testing of pH unneccessary. True?

What nobody?....I guess its a stupid newbie question.....
"pH of pure water (from a RO/DI unit) is hard to accurately measure with a pH meter, and the pH that you record may be.... spurious ......... The measured pH of my RO/DI water is higher than that (about 10), but it is quite clean based on it's measured conductivity." - Randy Homes-Farley. |
