I have a new one, and he does a great job on the sand. What is he looking for, and will he deplete the sand?

Hi shoeman, eventually they will devour your sand bed, but depending on the size of your tank, it won't happen overnight. I've got two of these guys and they pick at the food scraps that fall to the bottom during feeding time. If you want an active live sandbed, I'd pick another type of starfish. Best of luck. Matt.

They will deplete you sand bed and slowly starve to death..no it won't happen overnight but it's not a pretty sight. IMO they do not eat prepared foods and food that fall to the bottom. They are one of those animals that should be left in their natural habitat.
