i placed the colt very close to the xenia initially, now the xenia and colt have grown a little, and are touching each other. i thought the colt's sweeper tentacles were supposed to be powerful? the xenia doesnt seem bothered at all...

I don't think colt corals have a very potent sting. At least I've never heard of it before. Don't the sweeping tenticles usually come out when your lights go off? maybe your xenia is closing up (purging) when the lights go off, and the colt's tenticles can't reach the xenia since it is closed. Just a thought. I know that my xenia kinda purges like an anemone does when the lights go off. Anyway, if the two corals are happy when being that close together, I wouldn't worry about it.
