Stocking Plan - Your Thoughts?
Currently stocking a 75g. Need some help in planning out order of stocking my fish. Here is my plan (this is just a laundry list of potential fish, so, trust me, I'll respect the bioload!!).
Currently the tank has a 4" Foxface. Here's my idea of stocking (some may or may not apply): 1. Foxface 2. Lutescens Wrasse (Sunset Wrasse) 3. Picasso Trigger 4. Squarebox Anthias 5. Valentini Puffer 6. Small Navarchus, Flagfin or Goldflake Angel 7. Royal Gramma Again, these are some thoughts - may do a butterfly (last in?) or potentially a dwarf lion. Question really is on fish #2. I'm thinking the Picasso Trigger, but a great LFS has some real nice Sunset Wrasses that are super acitive and doing well. Just wondering if I should add him later as may be aggresive and territorial (kinda of like the Lunares). Again, don't need advice on stocking levels, just more of the order in which to stock them. Thanks, Jeff |

Is this going to be a reeftank? I would highly recommend against the trigger. Its will eat just about everything it can...including the other fish in the tank as it grows older. They can also get very large.
The angelfish will likely munch on any SPS you put in the tank (although not surely). If you want to get an angel, it'd be better to wait until the tank is very stable (good water quality) and get a smaller angel of the Centryope (sp?) genus. Even there though, it can be hit and miss as to whether they will munch on coral. The puffer is also commonly seen on more aggressive fish only tanks. the anthias will do well once the tank is settled, and stable (although 75 gal is about as low as you cna go with a anthias IMO). Everything else will likely do good. just be sure to stock slowly, and put the least aggressive species in the tank first. -Perry |

Sorry - its a FOWLR.
2nd tank in my house - my established tank is a reef - decided wanted to do a tank with 'non reef safe' fish - i.e triggers, thalassoma wrasses, angel, etc. Tank wont have shrimp, feather dusters, etc for the fish to snatch up... |

aahhh, that makes more sense.
![]() Looks not too bad then. Just be sure not to overstock, you want to leave room for the fish to grow. ![]() -Perry |

I'm ok on the actual fish - i.e no traditionally 'tough to keep' fish. What I'm more interested in is the actual stocking order.
That is - want to add my Anthias later - experience with anthias in my reef (currently have the most beautiful ventralis) - do better in a more established tank. What I want to get at is adding fish in the right order so that they dont get too aggressive - i.e. next fish I want to add is the Sunset Wrasse or a Picasso Trigger - have never had either so I'm wondering if they'll get too aggressive or territorial since they are one of the first fish in and beat up all the newer additions. Once the fish are in, then I'll add the 16" Emperator and the Leopard Shark (just kidding!!!) Any advice? |
