Sebae Anemone - Bright Yellow
Local LFS has a couple of beatiful sebae anemones each with one or two percs squatting in them.
Here's the thing - the anemone's are a bright yellow with pinkish purple tips. Is this normal? If seen some Gonioporas that color - verdict there is they are definitely dyed. Sound like it for this Sebae? I currently have a nice green rock anemone (came as a hitchhiker) that's been thriving for about a year. Tank is a 72g with 2 175 Halides and 2 NO Actinics. Should I bring him home. J |

Idrum, I am not that familiar with sebae anemones. The ones I've seen are mostly light brown in color, with the exception of the white sebaes wtih the purple tips.
Do you think maybe it is just light brown or is it yellow? Haven't seen a color morph of it. From what I have heard, Sebaes are harder to keep than the Bubble tip anemones, and requires more lighting. Your lighting looks to be sufficient, though. I will wait for other opinions on this, but i fyou decide to take him home update us on how its doing. Actually, you have any chance of bringing a digital camera to the LFS and taking a shot of that thing? Regards, Ilham ![]() |

The brighter abnormal colors are often caused by the wholesaler literally dipping the anemones in a salt water dye.
The dye soaks into the anemones and they sell them under some strange names for huge amounts.

I bought a bright yellow, probably dyed sebae from my LFS about 6 months ago -- was only $30.
Here are some pics of what it looked like when I got it: New Sebae (pics) I do believe it was dyed. I have kept it under 2*250 10K MH and it is now a very pale yellow, but still has the purple tips. It is, however, very healty. Fully expanded and eats like a pig. I have a mated pair of maroons living in it. Just 2c... Rob |

Sounds like a dyed animal. You may want to ask the LFS where the animal came from. Singapore has offers a number of 'rare' colored anenomes that are dyed.
