I have had this in my tank for about 5-6 months now and no others have sprouted up. Which leads me to believe it is not. If it isn't what else could it be.

Does'nt really resemble an Aiptasia.
But there is a chance it might be, so better safe than sorry.. FILL THAT THING UP WITH BOILING WATER hehehe.. |

some may shog, I had a outbreak in my refugium of aiptasia they were much smaller then yours appears to be . I added 2 peppermint and after a couple months no more aiptasia. I do not think they would eat one of your size though. My advice would be to add several peppermint shrimp to your tank. You hardly ever see them they are mainly nocturnal. Then when you do have a aiptasia pop up chances are really high that one of them will get it.Hope this helps!

Ryan,
Thanks. I figured I would haved to try and kill this one off by hand one way or another. I actually have 2 aiptasia in my tank. They one in the photo is the smaller one too! I am going to try and do the boiling water thing and see if that works. If not I might just try and cut the head off of it. So when it is small and trying regenerate I hope the shrimp will try and get it then.SHOG ![]()

That might work. The best method I have found for killing them yourself is to burn/encapsulate them with super glue. I highly recommend this method!
If you can remove the rock this is the only way to go Good luck!Ryan |

I think the picture would look more brown from a different angle.

Someone once said it was something else too because it had the
"Curly Q" looking tips on the arms. Does that ring a bell with anybody? SHOG ![]()

Ashamed to admit it but if you want to see some serious Bryopsis then come to my house. I have been doing WC like mad. Cut back feeding to only every other day and chopped my photo period to 8 hrs. Finally starting to see some if it going away. Been doing this for almost 2 months now too!
I dunno what happened. It seems that even though I didn't lose much when I moved the tank to Chicago from Okla that I am paying in all kinds of other ways. Just seems thats when all the problems started for me.SHOG ![]()

Yes it's Aiptasia, But it's Aiptasia mutabilis (aka: "trumpet anemone"). I have 2 in my 65 gal tank. They live in a rock crevice, do not breed like rabbits, and they don't bother anything. I find them a rather nice addition to my tank.
You need only to be concerned with Aiptasia diaphana (aka: "small rock anemone", "harbor anemone", "cursed mongol anemone hoard that will take over your tank"). I used to have several of these, but a wonderful pair of peppermint shrimp made a lunch of them and I have not seen any since. ![]()
