Macro pic....help with 995 also

Well here is one of my first close up shots that came out pretty good. Most of my shots are coming out blurry and I'm not sure why. I've tried lots of settings and a tripod. I know the camera is capable of more and I want to figure it all out. Please give me some tips and maybe some of your settings that helped you. Thanks and enjoy my picture of Nat and my brain.

Try using the timer delay so you are not actually pressing on the camera when the picture is taken.

Yeah, that is how this picture was taken. Definitely helps! I just can't seem to get the fine definition I have seen from others. Don't get me wrong, it takes great pics and I am very happy with it. Just looking for tips on how others take pics.

I have a CoolPix 990, and I've found that getting clear, crisp shots indoors without a flash or in lower light conditions is very difficult because of the slow shutter speeds.

It's too bad they couldn't put a better lens (wider aperatures) on these very expensive cameras.

Try doing a manual focus... I have a coolpix 885 and I attribute most of the blur to the auto-focus... going through glass & water... try determining the distance to object and set it manually. The timer with tripod also seems the way to go.
