Ok I am about 2-3 weeks out on moving my 58gal and 29gal into my 180gal. Can anyone tell me the best way to make this move as easy as possible!? Each tank has two fish in it;Nothing big. And between both tanks only five corals also a big a$$ Green Carpet! What about the 100 or so LBS of LR that are in thes two tanks? My 180gal just got 150 in it now that is curing!
Any help would be Great, VTEC |

Vtec,
Hi, I would first make sure the water quality in the 180 gallon is good, an dthat the rocks you are curing now are fully cured. You'll have lots of live rock afterwards(150 plus about 100?). Since they are established tanks, I would not worry about getting new ammonia spikes, or even any nitrate spike. I'm assuming you dont' have sand in the 180 yet, since you're still curing the rock. I would put the fish from the other two tanks in a different container while you reaquascape the 180 gallon with the rocks from the other two tanks. After everything has been moved, and rocks are in place, then I would finally place the fish in. Regards, Ilham |

Yes I do have some of the sand in there now about 2" of sand! I am planning on adding 3 more inches after the LR was done cycling! Is this the wrong way of doing it! I asked a fellow reefer how to do this and this was the way he had said he had done it! It worked for him so I did it this way!

No it is fine. In fact, in the small 25 gallon, I took out everything and now also curing LR from Jeff's. I took out the rocks a couple days ago and dumped in more silica sand and put the rocks back to cure. After about a day or two, I see little burrowing worms making their way up the new sand!! I see little pilesof sand on the surface. I think you are doing that correctly. Keep us updated with the move.
Regards and best of luck, Ilham |

So your saying it will be ok to put all citters in the new 180 gallon all at the same time! Even my 14" GREEN CARPET!
Just don't want to cause harm to any critters! VTEC |

Of course not!! The 180 tank needs to mature for that carpet anemone. I would not just dump and move it to the new tank directly. I'm hoping someone else will reply here.

Yes I would not do that! But I do not want to take all out of that tank and just leave the Carpet! VTEC

I would let the new tank with the new LR and sand cure and mature for a couple months. Remove all the fish, corals and LR from the smaller tanks and put them in a large tub. Save as much of the water from the smaller tanks to use in the big tank. Try not to disturb the sand beds. Once you get all the water, fish, corals, LR out, you can now remove the messy messy sand beds......good luck
Remember! do it right the first time... Mark |

I'd say that once your water clears up after you add the LR and sand and everything, the anem will be OK as long as the water is good and there's light. You can always feed him if you need to until the water gets cultured well. I'd almost say add him before the corals, because he's likely to move around until he finds a happy spot, that happy spot could be on top of some of your corals. As far as what to do with the corals until the anem gets happy, well, maybe leave them in one of the smaller tanks with a few pieces of LR until the finds his spot.... Just a suggestion.
