The new tank is going well. The Ca is at 420. I've been dosing b-ionic. NO3's are at 10ppm. Ammonia is non existant
. I havent moved any of the sand from my old tank yet but so far all is well. I have about 20lbs of brand new lr. in my tank. The sand bed is seeded. I now have 9 blue leg reef hermits, 2 red leg reef hermits, 1 cuke, many pods/worms/bworms, a sally lightfoot. And the newest addition thanks to PetLand in Naperville is 2 peices of Florida Aquacultured rock with 2 different types of shrooms. I have "Green Tipped Frilly Mushrooms" and "brown frilly mushrooms" is what they were specified as at the store. I actually got them yesterday around 3p.m. They have just about reached full size since I added them. They are well over 3/4 of the way open. They look very nice and dont seem to mind the current or light so.....all is well so far. Next time I'm home if the shrooms are full bloom i'm going to move in the fish/snails/star/sand. And after they are in for a while, I'll start getting more coral, snails etc. So far so good. My brother said when I start getting it all put together he'll bring down his digi cam and I can take pix. Hopefully he wont have to work that day other wise i'll have to go get it. Any suggestions on what kind of leather to get? I'm going to stick to the hardy corals....shrooms and leathers....for my first 2 or 3 corals then get some more challenging types. Cast your votes and pix if you have one. thanks Jon |

Nice pics of the ricordea. For some odd reason, I thought that Devil's hand was giving me the finger as I was scrolling down.

Excellent vote on the ricordea shrooms. My school (eiu) has a red one and I love it but I cannot find a store in my area supplying them. I hope to make a trip to inland aquatics and sailfin sometime soon and see if they have some. There was a devils hand on sale for 20 bucks at my lfs. Its a possibility. Could someone tell me what a Lettuce coral looks like?? I saw it was on sale too but have yet to find a pic or sci. name for it. I ask because that was another of the corals on sale. I called home today and the shrooms are doing excellent so I'm very pleased with my decission to not use my old lr. and just get new stuff. WW............... I live in a very small town up by Joliet (not really close to joliet at all but everyone has at least heard of it) called Mazon. It's so small I think it is a very safe assumption to say Im the only saltwater aquarist in the town. However, I go to college at EIU. Right near Rantoul. You are just north on 57 from me am I correct? I'm checking out your site now as I type. Unfortunately I see I missed the latest meeting, let me know when the next one is.... the week of April 20th I'll be venturing to Pana so if you know any where to meet up and have time maybe we could hit the SW stores if you know of any. And as far as the devils hand......i too thought i was getting the bird
keep the suggestions coming. thanks. Jon |

Hows ol' route 47 doing? Haven't been up Mazon way in a long time!
We have a club member from Charleston, or just outside. His name is Frank and he goes by the RC handle of honeybee. A great source of information and some great macro algaes! On the 20th, I'll be in Indianapolis helping my father celebrate his 75th birthday. This will be the 1st meeting that I have missed. Next time you head up to Sailfin, let me know. Maybe we can hook up and chat a little. I know of another store in Urbana whose stock is low right now, but is working hard to get everything up to the level where he can compete with Sailfin. The owner is a CIMA member and an all-around really nice guy. Cheers!

oh boy 47.........ughhhhhhh......its long thats all i can say. LONG LONG LONG......i hate the drive to eiu its so boring but thats besides the point. I visited pet tropics and it was ok......not bad.....seen better. Their fish are hardy from my experience......never had any die on me. But sadly i've never seen a coral in there. I've been thinking it over and im leaning towards some sort of a leather for my next purchase. The ricordea are going to be in the tank but I want to get a little extra diversity in there. Well its time to get to class......going home tonight so rt. 47 here i come. Better yet..........Petland in Naperville here I come!
