DSB air bubbles
Ok I just moved my tank (everything survived and is doing beautifully) and I put in a DSB of carib sea aragamax sand. I've noticed that if I look really close at the sand bed, I can see something that looks like tiny little air pockets. I'm assuming that this is normal and they'll probably go away, but I know it's dangerous to assume things and I wanted to see if anyone could shed some light on the topic. The pockets aren't all over in the sand bed, just a few here and there. I've seen a couple little air-erruptions coming from the surface of the sand bed. I guess my question is, will the air near the middle or bottom of the sand bed eventually escape? my sand bed is about 4" deep on average. I also wanted to ask, if there's anyone who lives near me that could contribute some of their live sand to help seed my tanks DSB, that would rock. If not, I'll probably have to by some kind of live sand activator. I'll probably end up doing that anyway. Do you guys know of any good ones? seems like a lot of people on this board have recommended the ipsf kit. Are there any other good ones? Gracias.

Hi bongobrian,
The air pockets in your sandbed are perfectly normal. It is just the sand bed doing its work. Although I do not know exactly how it is happening or how it works. I will let one of the Pro's gp into that one. I have gotten an IPSF shipment before and I would say go for it. They have a great variety of clean-up crew/sandbed critters. -CaptK |
