Angry Fungus in Tank

I am a beginner @ this hobby. For the last two yrs, I have relied on outside help to maintain my tank. About a year ago, they said the tank(n ot the livestck) developed a fungus. They did not know what to doabout it. Finally after 4 mos it got so bad that they took it down and set it up with all new sand rock fish etc. It has now come back but not as bad as last summer. Has anyone experiened this? The fish guys I had been working with said they had not seen it before. If you ahve experience with this problem, what was your remedy?

Do you have a picture, or can you describe what it looks like? I've not heard of an aquarium fungus--only fungi on fish, which is rare. So far I can't find any info in it. This problem may need to be refered to somebody with more knowledge.

Welcome to the board! I hope we can help you with this highly unusual problem.

I have seen mold/fungus growing on the top, back, and outside of a tank before. I know someone with a FW setup that hasn't done a water change or any maintenence other than water top off in 2 years now and the whole back of the tank, over-the-back filter, and back of the light are covered in fuzzy black/green mold. Its utterly foul.

Without seeing photographs or detailed descriptions nobody is going to be able to give you "the" answer; to me from just what you've said already it sounds like your tank is growing something natural, be it diatom algae, sponges, or something that overtakes a area - and the guys your dealing with aren't informed enough to know what they are dealing with.

If you are paying money for their services, I would use this opportunity to move on to someone else.
