HEAT management??

My temp is now going up. I checked for a bad heater and now have all heaters unplugged and the temp is still going up.
The tank has been running for about 8 months. Now running 2 Little giants and one mag 1800. Lighting is 5 140w VHO. I have noticed that the skimmer pump seems to be pretty hot so I shut it down and left the cover off the light canopy today and I gained two degrees.
Will adding fans to the canopy help that much with this or maybe to the pumps?? Any thoughts or ideas?? Thanks, Bill

Hey IC, yes installing fans in your canopy will help a lot! When my tank starts to get hot I open my aquarium stand door where my sump/refugium sits and set up a regular house fan to blow over the surface of the sump. This will definitely help drop your temp., in fact I did this yesterday and my tank went from 84 to 79 in a couple of hours. (Evaporative cooling works great!)

What are your temperatures before and now? How long have you been set up? Is this your 180 gal tank?

Is just the skimmer pump hot? Be sure that the other pumps aren't adding heat, as well.

How about the weather in your house? Is the humidity a bit higher? Environmental changes outside the tank will affect temp, too.

Just some thoughts, maybe it'll help...

Yep, It's my 180. I was up to 82 and just put a fan blowing across the top of the tank and I lost 1 degree in about two hours. It seems my corals like the temp around 75 to 78 anything higher they start to close. I have been running about 80 for a week and my buttons closed up. The LFS where I got them was running about 75 and they looked great ( I did a water test on his tank and my tank has better water parameters). My tank has been running for about 8 months and I never had this happen.
We did have hot weather the last couple of days but my temp has been going up for about a week.
The main pump has a fan built into it and it's not making too much heat. The Mag 1800 feels almost cool. the skimmer pump is hot. I have two rio's running the CR and they seem OK. I just bought a small clip-on fan that I'm going to put in the cabinet.
I have a few more small fans I'll set up and keep the cabinet doors open and see what happens.
Thanks for the imput. Bill

Just an update:
I got a few fans running and it was 90 outside today and I kept the water temp at a steady 79.5. Everything has opened up and looks great except the buttons and my rasta.
the rasta has me worried. it has grown to the size of a soccer ball and has never closed up like this. Hoping it will be OK.
