I have A 55gal reef that is invading with brown anemonies...They are such a disaster. I have tried a chemichal called Stop!for Aiptasia..I cant get rid of these creatures, they are taking over my tank.I was told to get pepperment shrimp and they will eat them. Is this true..? Please help, before I tear the tank down. Thanks oceanreef!!!!!!! |

I have good results with peppermint shrimps. If the shrimps do not have other foods readily available to them, they will eat the aiptasi. If you do not have corals or a sand bed, you could try a copperband butterfly. They would do a better job if you can get a healthy copperband. There are also berghia nudibranches, but if you have a tank covered with aiptasi it wouldn't make sense to get the nudibranches. You would need a bunch of them and they are expensive. They also will die once the aiptasia are gone.

I have also had good luck blasting them with hot Kalk. You have to be quick but if you use boiling water and Kalk mixed to a heavy consistency , and put into a large syringe you can spray them before they retreat and if you get them they are dead . They just disinegrate , and you keep up the Ca levels in your tank at the same time
