On a brand new tank I use tap water, sea salt, enough calcium chloride to bring the Ca up, a little buffer to bring the alk up and then some ammonia chloride to bring the ammonia up; then I let it sit for a month or so.
As for a running tank I only use caclium chloride, superbuffer dkh, and sometimes iodine. Keeping it simple is nice. |

I use R/O water. Super buffer dkh and tropic marine bio-calcium. Then I watch the KH and dial the reactor in accordingly.

I used RO/DI water, as mine tap water had too much silica, and B-Ionic two component calcium/buffer solution. Nothing else.
