Min for squamosa?
I've heard that derasea and squamosa are the least light loving clams, but they also need to be on the sandbed, Would 2 55w pcs be enough on a 29g for the clams?
I'm guessing not. |

I'm thinking not. We have both a squamosa and a derasa, but waited to get them until upgrading to MH.
I have 2 x 55W pc's on my 29 softie/shroom/baby banggai tank. It is enough for that, but I wouldn't put a clam in there. JMO. Someday you'll have one, and it probably isn't as far off as it seems. Danielle |

imo,a predominantly brown clam might be do-able,midway or higher in the tank.

T. Squamosa require less light than the others but IMO you are on the lower end of lighting.

Agreed,
You dont have enough for a deresa. Make it 4x55 and Id say maybe, but you have very low lighting for anything but a few softies that dont particularly care for much light and thats about it IMO. Jason.

fwiw, on pg 373of the modern coral reef aquarium 3,there is a picture of a blue crocea releasing eggs in an aquarium.
its near the bottom of the tank under NO flourescents. |

Interesting about the crocea... FWIW, we ordered our little squamosa sight-unseen, and it isn't brown at all - it's green and ivory polka-dot. I've never seen another clam like it. So planning on a brown clam doesn't always pan out.

Ummm... I know I don't have enough for a clam now but I don't understand the comment about that I could only keep a few softies that don't care about light? Pretty sure, after a bunch of research I could keep almost all softies, a couple of lps, and a bta if I really wanted to.

mikeman,i feel that alot of us ,especially on the boards, tend to think we need more light than we really do.all of the things yuo mention can be kept with youre lighting, and personally i would include some brown clams..........
in tra1, they say they have kept clams ,with success, under all types of lighting.the references to clams kept under normal flourescents are quite numurous ,i could dig up more with a little effort... i still say it can be done ,but more light is definitely better.got any room for more? ![]() |

I wasn't taking offense or anything,
just so you know you can keep bubble tipped anenomes in this lighting, they get a small part of their food from lighting, and feeding them krill, and shrimp keeps them quite happy. |

most of those pic ppl use seawater/or feed something. phytoplankton. Clams get most of there foods from feeding but the heavy lighting makes it easier which i would do add 2 more bulbs JMO
