A Question For Those Who Use EuroReef Skimmers?

How does the output of the skimmer work. It appears that the output sticks straight up with a sponge on the end. How does the output work exactly. Pictures would be nice. Might want to try it on my amiricle. Getting some micro bubbles into tank.
