updated pic of my 155 in wall.

Just put the water in so it's still a little dusty in there...

hi -
that'll be sweet!
you might want to ask your contractor about reversing the orientation of your insulation in the ceiling (only in the part behind the tank where the pumproom is). since this area may be warmer & more moist than the part of the house above it, it seems the vapor barrier should go down instead of up.

Contractor! I wish I could afford to pay someone to build this for me! I have poly completly enveloping the room and I sealed the concrete with a mildew resistant water sealer. There's also a vent controlled by a humidity thermostat that turns on the fan when it reaches a certin level (around 80%). The water evapotates super fast ever since I put the fan in. Over the poly is 1/4" dura-rock for the ceiling and 5/8" green board for the walls. So all in all I think I've got the moisture thing under control. I post some more pics soon, it's looking nice...thanks for the thumbs up reefers

You may want to set the humidity reducing fan to around the 50-60% mark. When my humidity reaches 50%, its tough to get the tank to evaporate. I have to control 1600w of MH.

Current evaporation is 5g per day.

VERY NICE !!!!
That is going to be one nice set up when you finish it.
I am in the finishing stage of my http://community.webtv.net/MarkPelski/INTHEWALL120GAL
I had to relocate the chiller back out to the patio.
Is that an exsisting basement that you are remodeling ?
More photo's when you can , I'd like to see your progress !!!

I had to run the pvc for the chiller about 80ft up through the attic out to the balcony, added the ampmaster 3000 this weekend and plugged er in . Now I have more room above the tank

Fishme, looks great!! I'm still fooling around with the humidity monitor, I'm doing about 1.5 - 2 gallons per day, but I dont have the halides wired up yet. For now I'm using my IC 660 and four 4' VHO's. All my corals (except the polyps) are in a friends tank untill my tank becomes stable enough. This is my new house we just finished building. The room the tank is in will be a theater room. I have a sweet InFocas LCD projector that drops down from the ceiling. I'm still wiring all the speaker jacks. Every jack will also have cat-5 and fiber provisions. I'll update soon...thanks

Thumbs up

Don't you just love filter rooms?
Pretty much along the lines of what I'm planning (with some luck due for next year).
Since you are still building, check out this page, might give you some good tips and/or ideas:

Don't forget a drain right on the floor if you can add one.

Joaco, good to hear from ya!! Your filter room is looking mighty sweet! You're right though, an isolated room for the filters and tank "junk" makes it nice and easy. No more dried flake on the rug, no more skimmer splash on the wall. I could go on an on.... Also, I put 1" thick foam between the tank and plywood. Was this too thick? I've noticed a few air bubbles (or tears) in the silicone where the glass butts up against the other piece. It hasn’t changed much but I’m still worried about it, it being a bow-front and all. I’d hate to tear down the tank if I didn’t have to…what’s your thought?

Thanks!
One little detail though: that is NOT my filter room. It's Jim's 650 gallon tank filter room.
But my filter room will be something similar to that, I'm still in the very first steps of blueprints, still playing around with ideas.
I have the wife's OK already!! (most important thing for a real harcore-macho-reefer yes hon, whatever you say )

My 200 gal reef is in the living room, I have WOODEN floor there, no carpet. The closest water source and drain is in the kitchen, and it's impossible for me NOT to splash some from the buckets when I do water changes. Wifey always says she had to be drunk when she 'allowed' me to upgrade to the 200 gal tank. Actually she was in Spain when I installed it (insert *VERY* evil laugh here!)

I don't think it's too thick. Wouldn't worry about the bubbles either, as long as they were just trapped in the silicone when the tank was made. You might see them better now that the tank is full and because of the better lights (Pressure from glass to glass makes the once round and small bubbles look flat, and hence wider)

Not MY filter room (see post above). But when I told my wife that looked very similar to what I have in mind, she asked: so you are actually going to sleep in there too? or is it going to be in the garden?

....uh-oh...I better put a toilet in there too...

See the floor drain? even the skimmer gunk flushes there.

Thanks Joaco, I can rest a little easier...When the basement floor was being poured, I placed a 3" pvc drain down and under the foundation. It actually drains into the foundation perimeter drain and is carried away into the leach field. Nothing fancy but it should work if the emergency should arise…Thanks again
