Check Out My 55

Well I have finally got some pics that I think look half way decent. It is a 55gallon with two 96wattpcs and two 55wattpcs. I know it doesn't compare to some of you professions out there but how am I doing so far? (Please ignore the two green power heads this is just a temporary fix until I get my other powerhead.) Please be gentle!!

DINHOUSE, naser is right , just wait and see what happens. It usually happens with most of us who start our first reef tank . I also started a 29 gal softy tank and it very quickly turned into a sps only and the softies went to the refugium. Then the 29 sps tank tured into the 120 in the wall.

Welcome to the BB that is a little laid back compared to the high speed RC.

Your tank looks GREAT !!!!!!

I know what you mean about 5 years ago I thought I needed a small tank. Now i have a 29 gallon fresh up stairs, a 30 gallon fresh, down stairs my 55 salt and a 15 gallon salt prop tank. Not to mention the 70 gallon I just bought that is gonna be built in to a bar a have in my basement. It's a sickness I tell you!!!! "Hello my name is Darren and I'm a reefaholic!"

Hi DINHOUSE!

The tank looks great. I've always liked a nice soft coral display.

How often do you prune the macro from the display? Do you have a sump or refugium on the system with it as well?

Congrats and keep up the efforts,
Scott Z.

Given it's a 55, I think you've done a super job!! Looks good and clean.
I think mrok12 has the system pretty well figured out I started with a 25 - then to a 44, to a 55, to a 72 and 35, now to my inwall 155 bow. Per order of my wife it must end here...
Keep up the good work!

"Reefland" I prune the macro about once a month. For what ever reason it it doesn't grow out of control. And my 55 is skimmerless and sumpless. I am running a millinium wet/dry hang on filter. That along with water changes is all I do. I think I just lucked out and stumbled upon the right balanced bioload in my tank. I actually had planed on adding a skimmer and a sump/refuigium at one time but slowy but surly my tank started to get where I wanted it so my motto became:"If it ain't broke don't fix it!" Thanks guys

Darren

Yes, a friend of mine did that a few times. Finally the cops got him as he was escaping from one of the banks. It's an expensive hobby, ya know?

this is an old pic of my branching hammer it has atleast doubled in size since this picture was taken. It has also started to grow back it's other three heads.

This is a pic of my devils hand a day or so after I got him.

I believe this one is called a Kenya tree coral. This to was taken a day after I got it. When it is happy it extends and hangs down and it looks kinda like a willow tree. I has since grow a new branch and I appears to be splitting down the center!

here is just a plain mushroom I have tons of these all over my tank they came with some of the rock I bought. They are kinda plain. I just have always liked this picture.

What the heck were you worried about my friend? The tank looks great! And if the occupants like the green power heads , leave em....

Yup, I also have a Kenya tree. They are VERY easy to reproduce: just cut a branch and put the cut base of it against whatever you want, 2 days later the new little coral will be fully attached to that new place. The mother Kenya tree recovers in 2 days at the most.

Mine started to extend the branches a lot more when I placed it hanging a bit on the side, far from LR below it, on a place with indirect current. The branches inflate a lot more in this position and it started to grow faster.
I don't really know why, but I guess it could be because the coral doesn't rest against LR when it deflates at night, the branches just hang free in the water.
