B-Ionic Users: How much do you dose?
After struggling to keep my Ca levels high enough and Alk stable enough using Kent Turbo Calcium (Calcium Chloride, I believe) & Superbuffer, and reading the Water Chemistry chapter in Borneman's Aquarium Corals, I have decided to switch to BIonic's 2 part buffer instead.
I am starting out at the 1ml/4 gal recommended dose, but I have a feeling that I will quickly need to bump that up. (Pretty heavily stocked 90g tank -- mix of SPS, LPS and softies) I just want to get a feel for how much I might end up using. How much do you dose of each daily? what are your alk/ca levels? how big/heavily stocked is your tank? Thanks for the info in advance ![]() |

I have a 65 gallon SPS/LPS tank pretty heavily stocked and I dose 30-35ml per day each part. I must admit I haven't tested my water in a long time so I don't know what my levels are but aeverything looks healthy and I have a ton of corraline.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info... I figured we'd have more bionic users.

I have a 44 gallon with a 20 gallon sump/refugium and I dose about 15 ml a day. I also add 1 teaspoon of Reef Advantage once a week and my calcium stays right around 450. Pretty heavily stocked tank also.

I'm using the recommended dose of each part and considerable amounts of coraline algae have been appearing on rocks that were bare of any C.A. growth. I just started using it again and am glad i did so. Ca. is at 400 now from what was once 365ish. I'm not stocked heavily on any Ca hogs but I'm preparing so I can try out a Monti or some type of sps. I'm a fan of B-Ionic. Just make sure you shake WELL AND add it slowly especially the alk part. In my tank when I didn't shake it all that well it would be a little cloudy in the tank because itd form a percipitate. My tank is very shallow so adding the doses slowly helps.

im up to about 50(a little more ca than alk) mls of each a day in my 120g
ive been using bionic for a few years -great product-but i think for larger tanks it might be best to have a reactor/use kalk or something. im gonna get a nilsen reactor, set that up to drip only at night, and keep using the bionic. |

Seems like there's a very wide range of dosing! That's good -- I was concerned I'd break the bank with this stuff.
I noticed a couple of you mentioned that you dose the Ca more than the Alk one -- does that cause any problems? Am I better off using CaCl or something if I need more of the Ca buffer than Alk? Thanks for the replies... ![]() Rob |
