I have had this happen to me a couple of times, its hard to hold something that is squirting on you. A buddy was over and just could not stop laughing when this happen to me. The first time it took me by surprise cause I wasnt expecting it then I knew and it still surprises me. If you ever take a clam out of water be prepared for it to surprise yah!

I have finally learned when taking them out, turn my face or turn the clams side ways.
Keep your month closed also.Barry |

I'd never had this happen or since it until I read this thread. This morning something was on my clam's shell, looked snail like, so I removed it to investigate. It squirted, missed me, but hosed my halide bulb pretty well. Fortunatly they weren't on, so no harm done.
I was deffinatly taken by surprise despite reading about it happening. |

I had also read about the tendency for clams to spit, but managed to forget about it... When our 8" derasa arrived, we spent so much time marveling at how awesome it looked in the bag, that we forgot about it spitting - until the clam launched a spray all the way across the room when I was putting it in! It was a good 8' spray, too! Thankfully, I had it aimed away from myself (sideways), as there is only a few inches of clearance between tank and canopy.
The crowd of visiting reefers practically fell over laughing. ![]() Danielle |
