I was making a midnight run to the can, when I peered into the tank and saw a cloud of shrimp fry. I turned on the lights , and lo and behold, one of the peppermints had spawned. I shut off the filters and all the fry swam to the top toward the light. The fish seemed to be sleeping, and had no interest in eating the fry. I finally decided to siphon the fry to a 2.5 gal tank for the time being. As of morning, they fry are still alive, but for how long? What do I feed them? How do I maintain the water quality with such small floating inhabitants?
Thanks! shrimpy1 |

I would isolate them in a very small tank and feed them phyto/zooplankton with a rigid airline or two in the tank and about a 10-15 bps when they start getting big enough you can wean them off of phyto into zoo. just keep the same params as your tank...dont need much light either maybe a small PC or sumthin.

You can feed the baby peppermints baby brine shirmp (perferabbly enriched) ...very easy. There is a interesting book out called "How to Raise and Train your Peppermint Shrimp" It is an entertaining book on the authors experiece breeding the peppermint shrimp...all the way to getting the shrimp to eat from her hand. The book is somewhere in the house if you want....I'll find you the author. Good luck.
