My nitrite goes high into the 50s!!!!!! everytime I don't have caulerpa in the tank when it goes down considerably, but I have a tang in my tank and well you know the rest of the story) and I was wondering if there was anyway to keep caulurpa with a tang without a refugium? My dad suggestes I put in a freshwater breeders box and keep it in there, which I'll do if I have too since I really want to keeping corals
oh and I forget Hahahaha(sarcastic laughing) I did get rid of my tang a week or so ago, and I get a phone call today from the guy that bought it from the lfs complaning that it had ick, and how the lfs denies that they are responcible, and they should talk to me! they gave my phone number away for !@#$$%&%#& then I tell the guy to come over and let me take a look at the tang, so he comes over with it, and it has a bad case of ick, the guy says that he doesn't want it and bracktickly throws the fish into my arms and leaves saying how generous he is giving my a deseased fish for free! I quick set up a 10g q tank(is this big enough?) and I have him in there, I'm giving him dried tang food. and garlic soaked brine shrimp, he looks alot better, then he did 4 hours ago but still I'm worried, so now I'm stuck with the tang again lol, I can't say I'm really mad though because now how can I give him away again I usaully try not to make venting posts, but this one I had too, I had to wait for about 400 hours though until I was composed to write this, I'm so mad! Poor little tang ....nobody wants him send him to me Ill take him Im very glad you took him back Mike! Very noble thing to do, and its pretty obvious that those ppl didnt understand how simple it was to cure the ich. As far as your calerpa and tang issue, you dont need much to make it grow ( a little lite and a little current and your off ) If you have some room in your sump try a cheap flourescent light (put it on reverse daylight) and put a little sand in the bottom and maybe a piece or two of LR and some calerpa and give it a shot

Mikeman ~
First of all, I am sure you mean nitrate and not nitrite. If your nitrite was in the high 50's, everything would be dead. If you want to grow caulerpa inside the main tank with herbivorous fish, you could set up a small refugium in the corner of the tank using eggcrate. Check out Carolos' site: http://www.carlosreef.com/refugium.htm Or you could grow halimeda instead of caulerpa... they should leave that alone. I think that it was a serious breach of privacy and a violation of ethical conduct for the LFS to give your home phone number to a stranger and refer them to you for redress concerning the tang with ich. Once you transferred possession of the fish to them, there was no reason for them to involve you in any future problems that might arise. If you had simply placed the fish with them on consignment to sell for you and they were sharing the proceeds of the sale with you, that would be different. And the integral part of the—the precious part, so to speak—I guess all land is precious, but the part that the people uniformly would not want to spoil, will not be despoiled. But there are parts of the monument lands where we can explore without affecting the overall environment."—George W. Bush, Media round table, Washington, D.C. March 13, 2001 |

I was almost tempted to put it back in my main tank today, I see almost no ick, and the the little tang has eaten a lot of my garlic soaked seaweed select, I'm wondering when can I put it back in my tank?
what is halimeda? and more importantly where canI get it? ------------------ Mikeman Humans are like parasites if you think about it, every other animal has found its niche, except us who just drain our host until its a lifeless shell...... |

Halimeda is a macroscopic calcareous green alga. You can get it just about anywhere. Here is a pic and some info: http://members.ozemail.com.au/~edrew...limeda/h7v.htm
