Post Red banded serpent star losing it's legs

I saw my serpent star this morning for the first time in about a month and it has lost almost all of it's legs. It only has two small (1") legs left. What could be causing this? I tested the water and everything seems fine. Nitrates are a little high at 15ppm but everything else is fine. I also have a bad case of cyano right now. I have done two water changes of 5g each over the past two days. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
