Question

Hi Jon,
where are the bubbles coming from, the LR, the powerhead itself, the sand? or else...? are they just rising like a column from somewhere or how?

They started just coming from the sand which I figured an air pocket just getting released or something but then they just started appearing from the water column?????? Odd sounding to me. They have greatly decreased in numbers since i got my latest peice of lr and put it near there but there are still a couple once in a while. Any ideas?
Thanks
Jon

Jon,
if the bubbles are not coming from the sand and they don't smell like rotten eggs, I wouldn't worry much.
Probably you have one of the pumps or powerheads sucking air either from the surface or rising bubbles from inside the tank (maybe a new piece of LR?).
If you see small bubbles from time to time, that could be because small bubbles (originating from new LR with air trapped?) gather somewhere in one of the powerheads, once the bubble gets big enough it gets sucked in by the powerhead, chopped fine, and released into the water column.
Or it could just be a piece of LR releasing air that was trapped when you introduced it. Just guessing here though.
makes any sence?

Yea. The Lr that was in there had been in for a few weeks so I'm guessing that it came from the powerhead. They have all but disappreared finally. I got a nice large chunk of lr the other day and had to do some rearranging to make it look a little more appealing and they have finally diminished so...no worries. All stock seem to be doing good and the water smells fine. Good thing too because the tank is in the living room and that could cause some tension in the household Thanks for your reply Joaco.
