this stuff almost seems as bad as xenia....I have one fairly large mother colony of white/brown pocillapora in my tank and it has spawned and now there are over 2 dozen spots where there are tiny frags starting to pop up all over .....I really mean ALL over....I can see that before too long I will have to frag a bunch of it.....Dont get me wrong its a beautiful coral but why couldnt it have been my pink pocillapora instead!! Oh well I guess I should just be happy that its spawning in my tank.
In this picture there are 3 different little self spawned frags of the pocilapora one right under the blennys mouth and the other 2 are pretty obvious this is the mother colony (im pretty sure atleast) and here is another spawned one (I think) and you can see its actually killing the trumpet coral But I actually dont think this is from the same mother colony....it is almost a lime green with pinkish tips....But I have had this trumpet for ever and about a month ago the pocila showed up....cant figure out where it came from. |

hey scubadude,
i wonder if it is only this strain of pocillopora that does that. i too have a colony very similar to yours that is spawning all the time. i have little frags growing everywhere, on the glass, powerheads, my returns, live rock, even on my magnets! i too wish it were one of the more colorful pocillopora spawning, but atleast we can assume we are providing a good environment for the corals! |

I have a now small colony of green polyped pocillopora that came from a colony that did the same polyp bailout and now my colony is doing the same thing. When I got this tiny 2-3 polyp "thing" the previous owner did not know what it was. He was going to Texas A&M and graduated and myself and some other MARSH reefers got the tank corals and stuff. He gave me the sps corals and this tiny thing that I didn't even know it was a pocillopora til after it took on the shape. I glued it to a piece of LR and now it is fist sized.
Great pics!! my 180 ecosystem sps/clam tank: http://berlinmethod.com/suet/ my 120 ecosystem sps tank: http://suetruett.homestead.com/home.html www.marshreef.org/members |
