Southdown sand question

Hi everyone, its been a while since i posted on this board.

Last summer i set up my first reef tank in a 25 gallon, it is still going and doing great. I am currently working on moving it to 29 gallon tank.

My question is, my first tank i set up using south down and am doing the same with this one, i just noticed on the bags of the southdown this time around it says "not reccommended for aquarium use". Is this just a disclaimer or did something change with their sand? i have have the 30 gallon set up for about a week and half with some cured LR and such in it and the parameters are great and the lr seems to be doing good.

Thanks,

Ira

I don't know? I got mine in january and it does not have that disclaimer on it. There has been talk that it may be cross contaminaed with fertilizers. That this is a possibility. No problem though so far here.

This is a guess, But I'm gonna conjecture here:

I've heard from several folks (on this board and RC) that the SD sand is bagged somewhere in FLorida, that you can actually go and they will drop a bulldozer full in the back of your truck, etc., But, if you mention ONE word about fishtanks, aquarium use, etc, that they won't sell it to you, because they have an agreement with Caribsea (or whomever the bagger of aquarium sand is), that they won't sell it for aquarium use.

So my guess is that the SD baggers agred to put that disclaimer on there to dissuede would-be SD buyers for aquariums.

THIS COULD BE WRONG IT IS JUST MY GUESS!!!!

Ive never done that before

IRA just wash the sand out real good....Im sure there is nothing wrong with it....there was a thread about this on RC and concur with the statements above....its prolly just a marketing agreement w/CaribSea.
