Seeking NJ/NY/PA reefers

Hi everyone!

I'd like to know who here is from the NJ/NY/PA tri-state area, say within an hour to 1.5 hours from Sussex County, NJ. Where do you shop for your livestock? What is the quality of the LFS in your area? Who would you recommend/advise against? I'm moving back up there next year and from my last vacation, I don't remember a whole lot as far as storefronts.

Thanks for the help!

Scott

OK, I do most shopping in downtown Manhatten and here are the stores I frequent in no particular order.

Petco on 17th & Broadway (North Union Sq.) - salesppl aren't too knowledgeable, but good prices and nice livestock deliveries every tuesday.

Petland on 14th btw 5th & 6th Ave. - better than the typical Petland (though that isn't saying much), less well stocked than Petco and usually pricier.

New World Aquarium 204 E 38th St - big selection of livestock, have most everything from microhermits to seaweed to corals and clams. Priciest.

Pacific Aquarium on Delancey St - Decent saltwater section. They use to have a nice reef section, though they've let it run amuck, and is now overrun with algae. Would be nice if they cleaned it up and got some new livestock.

If you guys know of nice stores in Manhatten, please post.

Something Fishy (formerly Aqua-Tropics) same owner. 1080 rt 46W in Clifton. Healthy corals and livestock but most are a bit pricy.
There is two stores on rt 23 in Wayne, i don't recall the names but they sometimes have some decent coral but no huge selection. You could hit all three of these stores within an hour or so.

Re: Seeking NJ/NY/PA reefers

It's unanimous, Absolutely Fish is a bit pricey, but it's the only place around that I like. Reef Encounters in Hackensack is not bad either but the selection is a bit commonplace. Beitals in Nanuet(I think) is worth the trip, but like Reef Encounters they will say anything you want to hear to make a sale. They both pitched a Goniopora to me as an easy to keep and hardy coral perfect for my 65 gallon with PC lighting. Needless to say, that was before I knew Reefland and that coral is long gone.

Brian(aka 120 Gallons) recommended a couple of places in PA. Hidden Reef in Levittown and Pets Plus in Langhorne. They are both probably on the outskirts of your travelling ditance Scott.

There's a place on Rt 22 in Bridgewater that I heard was pretty good. I thought the tanks and the selection looked crummy and the employees were clueless. I can't remember the name though.

Good luck, hopefully someone knows the BEST place.
