Is boxfishes reefsafe???
I've seen one at my LFS and the boxfish has lived in a reef for 8yr also heard horror storys about boxfish eating LPS for lots of ££. All opinions are greatly appreciated! -Thomas |

Box fish, and Cow Fish, and pretty much any fish that has a beak like mouth (Puffers) aren't overly reef friendly. I don't have experience with them and corals, from keeping them in the past I would say they would maybe nip SPS corals.
They will eat any small tube worm or invert that they can bite. All of the small orange and white tube worms that you may have now would be gone in a few days or weeks. Any small invert like very small snails, limpets, etc will all get picked off the rocks and glass. They also get large, into the 8-10" range.. So that means some day their mouth will be as big as a inch or more; so it will eventually be able to eat larger snails and shrimp. I would call them semi-reef safe; it depends all on what you want your reef to have or not have. |
