Angry Greenish thick hair algae & Bubbles all over the place

Well for the last 2-3months my tank has been looking like crap.. I have bubbles everywhere covering all the rocks and back glass.. I was battling the dreaded stringy red algae(bryopsis?) anyways.. Thats mostly gone now.. But I still have the bubbles everywhere I redirected 2 of my powerheads to spray across the live rock and the back glass..No difference.. The algae on the rock looks nasty its like a light greenish color kinda thick looking..What can i get to get rid of this?? all my water paramteters are perfect althoguh I haven't tested calcium or alk, or phosphate.. I run the skimmer 24/7 I feed every other day..I only feed frozen foods..I've been soaking my food in garlic juice for the last few weeks..I also just lost my white faced tang due to Ick.Today..I drip kalk a few days aweek about 1-2 gallons at a time..currents inhabitants are. 2 damsels(one is big and mean I think the cause of the ick in the white faced he'd been bothering him) I need to catch the big damsel but he's too quick..3 green chromis, 1 GS maroon clown, yellow headed sleeper and a yellow tang..Water parameters are as follows.. specific gravity 1.023( I need to raise it to 1.025) nitrite 0, nitrate 0, ph 8.2-8.3, ammonia 0. temp has been running about 80-84.5..Any ideas on what I can do..I havent added anything to my tank in about 2 months.. I lost an anenome 3months ago and have been having problems since...I lost all my caulerpa when I lost the anenome also..I believe due to the ammonia spike since I wa gone for a week when the anenome died..Unfortunately.

Any recomendations or suggestions would be great.. I hate to see this tank perish such as i feel it is..the tank has beasically been set up since febuary 2000..I combined 2 tank and put them in this 90 in febuary 2001..everything was established and great..No cycle or anything..I have softies and lps in the tank currently..I am gonna be adding some caulerpa soon as soon as I can find some anyways..Any help would be great...Dan

I'm interested in your quest as I have had an increase in algea (cyano and hair) over the last few months. I moved the tank in January, and it has been getting more sunlight during the day, that is where I think my problem started.
Reading your post I see that you lost an anemone, then your caluerpa, and then started having problems with the unwanted problem algeas. Just and idea, as I am no expert yet, but I think the caluerpa was using up most of the nutrients in the tank and when you lost the caluerpa the other algea had a chance to start growing. Is there any way you could get your hands on some more caluerpa? Until then, I'd test for Phosphates and maybe add a phosphate sponge, maybe that'll help.

Bamm Bamm, something does not sound right. If your readings are correct you should not have and algae problem. I would first test for posphate and also get a low range nitrate test kit to double check your nitrate readings. What are your using for water RO/DI??? If you are not using RO water this could be your problem. I had a nitrate test kit awhile back that was giving me false readings. One more question what do you have for a clean up crew snails, micro hermits etc????

thansk for the reply's..Iam using RO water..I need to get a ro/di but can't afford it right now.(just bought a new car) Iam gonna be buying one as soon as I get that $300 tax refund thingie.. I do have turbo's astrea's, scarlets, blue leggs.. Yeah I definately need to get some caulpera...I think that is a correct assumption..about the caulerpa I've been thinking that also..Oh yeah it is kinda like thick patches..And unfortunately my tank is in my living room near a wall of windows althoguh it doesn't too much direct intense sunlight.. Iam in the process(when my dad buys the screen) out using that heavy duty thick screen material on all the outside windows hopefully that should help..Dan

Bamm Bamm: I would say to check your phosphate level. And also evaluate the type of test kit you are using for accuracy. Use RO/DI water if at all possible. I do not know if your tank has direct sunlight or not, but this may add to an algae problem. So basically, I agree with what has already been posted. Good luck and keep us posted.

Well. I know a lot of people say that the Salifert kits are great. I use the SeaTest and FasTest kits and have had really good luck with them. And believe me, I've WASTED money on BAD test kits! Just DO NOT GET HAGEN test kits! Let us know.

I agree with Sker on the RO/DI, I need a new di membrane, and the hair algage TAKES OFF when I slack (it is now as matter a fact:fmad.

As for the nutrients. Its very common to see 0 readings on the testers because high amounts of algae suck up any nutrients that they can in short order. This causes the levels to stay at 0, they are used faster than they can accumulate.
