Planning the Upgrade
Here's the plan for my switch from my 29g to a 35g tank.
What I plan to do is the day before I'm going to put my 4" of silicate sand(I know I'm a risky one) into the new tank. Then put about 15g of fresh saltwater in. By the next day the sandbed should be settling pretty good. That's when I syphon out about 3g of water and put that into a 5g bucket then put the live rock in it... Next Syphon our about 5g of water for the fish and then keep syphoning water into a another 5g bucket and racing upstairs to dump into the new tank until I can easily catch the fish, Next bring the equitment upstairs, hook it up then place the live rock, and then fish/corals/snails. Is it realistic to have this take under an hour and a half? Also The day before I make the switch I plan on taking 5 or 6 cupfulls of sand, and trying to sift through it for some worms and such....I also want to put the rest of the sand into nylons and put them in the tank for 2 weeks. And when I take them out I'm going to sift through them too. If I do that will I have to get a detrivours kit? what do you think??? |

Detrivore kits are great, but if you know of anyone close by with a reef tank, you may want to ask for a handfull of live sand.
