Hello again everyone
Hey folks, It's been quite awhile since I have been on the boards so I figured I would stop in & say hi. I do have a couple things that I would like to ask though.
1) I dont have any sps corals in my tank but I have a ton of those little sps eating starfish in my tank. Of course they are not causing any problems except for the massive number of them. Last night when the lights were out I countes 123 on the front glass alone . If i get a harlequin shrimp should it be ok with my serpent star? It is quite large, ive had it about 3 years & dont want to see the legs start getting eaten off. Also im asuming it would be ok with my fire shrimp.2) I have a fairly large neon green welsophyllia brain. About 4 months ago it unattached itself from its skeleton & I was sure I was going to loose it but I didn't. It still seems to be thriving somehow. It eats, sticks its little tenticles out at night, and floats to a new location every time I do a water change but seems to still be doing good. Is this normal for them to be able to survive without a skeleton or not? Nyxll |

Hi Nyxll!
Long time no talk!
The brain detaching from the skeleton and continuing to live sounds wild! It seems that someone else mentioned this not to long ago; guess I'll go and search. Did anything negative happen with the tank when it happened or was it just all of the sudden? Scott Z. |

Hey Reefland,
Well my nitrates were high (40) at the time but i think it was a powerhead that came off the back glass & directed its flow towards the brain. It wasn't right next to it but there was a decent current. Greg |

polyp bailout is a response to stress, sometimes they live(grow a new skeloton) ,sometimes they dont.
exactly what "sps eating stars" do you have? and how could you possibly have so many when you have no sps??????? what are they eating? i suspect they are run of the mill tiny brittle /serpent stars. |

In my tank the same starfish eat mostly coralline till they stumble across some sps's . I've removed aprox. 100 of the little buggers so far and i'm still finding them
