Angry Brown lettuce algae.. HELP!!!

I have a problem with this discusting algae in my tank. So far I continue to pull it out, but it continues to grow.
Tank is 168 gal. + 20 gal. refugium. setup in May 31, 2001
My paramaters are as follows as of today.
Phos. = 0
PH= 8.3
SG=1.023
alk= 3.5
Nitrates= 0
calcium= 470
temp= 80-82
I only use RO/DI water.
I believe my circulation is about 2000 GPH.
I just recently replaced all the actinic bulbs in my PC, planning to replace the HQI MH soon.
I do not feed heavy. I feed pearls 1/2 tsp. once a week.
What should I do? I can't stand to look at it. It is not in the entire tank, mainly on the sides.
Thx for any help.

Susan,

Have you tried Emerald crabs (Mithrax crabs)?? Is this stuff slimy? I had two emerald crabs and they helped with hair and also brown algae. I'm not sure if this is the macro algae type or diatom blooms.

Hi Elmo:
It actually looks like pieces of brown lettuce. I saw a pic on a site not to long ago, I am trying to find it, but of course, now that I need it I have not located the site yet. I will try to post a pic later.

I think I have some of the same stuff. For now, I am just living with it and pealing it when I can.

well, the only reason I keep peeling it is because it keeps covering some of my zoos. Other than that, I dont think it is bad.

Sue is there any way to partition a section of it off for it to grow w/out competing w/other corals? You would have to give it very similiar lighting and current needs of course.....But maybe you could find a place behind some rocks where you cant really see but easy to access and harvest the algae? Just kinda thinkin out loud here :P

Will anything eat that?!?! Now I'm not sure what eats that lettuce algae. By the way Susa, that picture is pretty clear. Sorry to get back so late, I've been busy with 4th of July celebrations.
