I agree w/tendar though....you should try and put something on your tank to direct more of the light to the corals....Even Aluminum foil if ya havta....it will definately give you a little more light which will probably spur better growth rates....You goin with me and chuck to the Orlando meeting right?
BTW thats a sweet little piece of chesterfeildensis back there....where'd ya get that little jewel ![]()

Sweet tank reefhead! looks like you have some new pieces since I saw it last. BTW what type of closed brain is that at the bottom left of the tank? I have a brain that looks similar and I'm trying to identify the exact species. It's very cool to see a hex reef tank. Do you have any fish?

Cool site, so how long has this tank been set up for? it looks rather mature and stable. Lots of nice coralline growth!

I have two green chromis, and one yellowtailed blue damsel, but then, I have a lot of filtration on my tank, as well as live rock! I add food for my corals every other day, and do a weekly water change also.

I have low light corals; six kinds of buttons, five kinds of mushrooms, two flower leathers different colors, two kinds of xenias, clavularia, three kinds of colt coral, four kinds of toadstools, a green tree coral, four kinds of star polyps, a purple frilly gorgonian, and a flower anemone. I think that's about it,
they are all pretty tiny starts, except for four of them. I would like to have a Christmas tree rock, and either a blastomussa, bubble, or long tentacle plate. I have these two spots I've saved, for two special things, and I can't make up my mind. Do you know much about these last three corals? |

Oh, sorry,
I have high flourescent lights, and I feed the corals with a weekly waterchange, and Kent Phytoplankton, and coralife Invertebrate Smorgasbord. I also found some very small tablets that are phytoplankton, that I smash up on occasion, and feed them, on very small amounts. I don't have any algae problems, so I must be doing ok! A bit on the glass, but the rocks are good, and the coraline is growing pretty well now too. Mid week, I add Calcium, Iodine, and strotium to the sump also. ![]() |

you should read this since you are dosing alot of un-needed tace elements
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-0...ture/index.htm you really dont need to dose that stuff---except for Ca and Alk ofcourse |

Yes, I know most people wouldn't need to, but since I only have a thirty gallon, and no sump underneath, ( I have a small refugium on the side, with a skimmer) I have two filters on the back, and they remove a lot of nutrients from the tank, so I add only a teaspoon full, once a week. The woman that I got my corals from, only does water changes with Reef Crystals, and her tanks are absolutely gorgeous, but she has sumps, and I can't afford to buy the equipment, or my husband would scream, so hence, the filters, and food!

did you read the article?
since you feed so much you dont need to dose any trace elements...ie-strontium your tank will get all the trace elements it needs from food and water changes |

Ok, I understand what the article is saying, but the last article I read, said if you have filters on your tank, it strips the tank of too many trace elecments! I guess I will go with just the water changes for a while, and see how they do, and continue adding a bit of food! Sometimes this gets sooooo confusing,
