Caulerpa or Macroalgae ID please
I have several of these colonies growing on my liverock in the 25 gallon. It has grown considerably so hopefully it's good for the tank.
Here is it. It seems to have small spikes on the ends. I can see it's roots along the tips as it tries to grasp onto something. Thanks, Elmo |

Well, apparently I just found the answer to my own question.
The above is a Caulerpa cupressoides, known as the Razor Caulerpa. Is this a hardy type of caulerpa or does it go asexual often? -Elmo |

I meant "sexual", not "asexual".
Sorry for the numerous posts to my own post..... -Elmo |

Its pretty hardy. I had it in my refugium that was lit 24 hrs a day and never really saw any of it go sexual...It got overrun by the grape caulerpa however and there was very little left of the razor when I dismantled the tank.
Its a great caulpera, fast growing. Id suggest 24 hrs lighting regardless as it helps keep your tanks PH stable too but its definately a good choice for a refugium caulerpa. The only one better IMO is Chaetamorpha(the spaghetti caulerpa) that to my knowledge doesnt go sexual and doesnt root. J
