New to Reefland

My name is Yishi.
I am 35.
I live in New York City.
Went diving in the Red Sea once, my first look at a natural reef and became hooked. Had to get a piece of this world closer to home. Spent about a year reading, researching and talking with different people before starting my first reef, which is now about 8 months old.
Being somewhat of a naturalist, I am striving to recreate the complexity of a natural reef, as much as possible by using natural complexities (i.e. sand teeming with life, surface water movement, etc) rather than man-made complexities (i.e. plumbing, pipes, skimmers, reactors, etc.)
I am new to this site and hope to be able to post photos of the tank and all the creatures that call it home as soon as possible, as well as more information on theory, maintenance, and observations.
Ah, and here is a link to a pic of me. (I think I will begin to grow gills or tenticles any day now!) http://pak04.pictures.aol.com/NASApp...s&locale=en_US

Hello,

I found this board pretty much by fluke but I'm glad I did. It looks like it has a good mix of people with lots of knowledge being shared and discussed.

I use to run a coral farm with a friend... but breaking even wasn't enough income, haha, so I started working at a LFS to pay the bills!

Also, I use to do custom acrylic work making sumps, reactors, skimmers too but I don't have the time anymore so that has slowed and I just help out friends when they need a hand with odd projects.

I just setup my new tank its a 100g Acrylic with custom external overflow. I sold my glass 120g and in the mean-time my friend is holding all my corals in his 180g tank.

I dont have any pics right now but I'll get some later.

I would like to be a commercial diver.

Mr

Good day everyone

30 years old. Got a Wife. Got a kid, one on the way.Got no Marine tank only fresh water fish, and after 20 years I think it is time to take the next step, Don't you all? And this is the start. On my marks, get set and BANG I'm off...

Thinking of changing the tank ( 1200mm x 450mm x 450mm) to 1220mm x 700mm x 450mm this will make it just off 400L. And adding the outher tank a smaller one underneeth it and puting glass baflers in and make if a filter this is the start.

Now wach and see as I get into this. BUT this is were all of you come in. I need Your help. Thanks

May you all have a great day

fishypete.

Heeellllooooo!!!!

Hey!! I recognize quite a number of names here! I loved Gene's Reefland shirt at MACNA, so I decided to stop by and check it out!

Name = Nikki
Age = never ask a woman her age
Occupation = professional sippy cup filler upper
Location = Indianapolis....though the heart is still in Chicago.
Tanks = 120 gallon SPS BB tank with closed loop on an AMP 3000. Flow is controlled by a motorized ball valve. The tank has been set up just over a year, and has been through its struggles (algae, pinched mantle, and 2 herbivorous-turned-SPS-eating fish to name a few). I also have a skimmerless 12 gallon nano-cube deluxe that houses a SPS eating bi-color blenny, softies, and a couple LPS.

Hi Nikki,
I gotta know....how does a professional sippy cup filler upper have time for a 120g SPS tank?!? I have done both but not at the same time I gotta hand it to you. Oh yeah welcome to Reefland

Ok Pete,
Some of us have U.S. not Metric branded into our brains so forgive us if we are slow...but your dimensions convert to this right?

( 4' x 18" x 18") to 4' x 28" x 18"

Which I say definately go with the wider tank You had to know I would say that though....it definately gives you much more room to work with.

Thanks for the welcomes!

Scubadude - it isn't easy, that's for sure. Inevitably, when I begin to work on the tank, she needs something. Its funny because she could be totally engrossed in something, not paying attention to me at all, but as soon as the stand door opens....."mommy, I need ________". lolol. I usually wait to do big projects on the weekend when the other half is home to help. Hmmm....maybe there is a correlation between algae issues and needs of the child.

Charlie - LOLOL - I don't hear anything . Although my husband is from Cleveland, so...........
