I am a newbie looking to jump into marine aquatics/reef keeping. I am not a newbie to fish in general as consider myself a fairly advance koi keeper.
I have been reading everything I can about reefkeeping and look forward to getting heavily involved in the hobby. I'm weighing my options as how to proceed, but I have read a number of people messages to new hobbiest recommending keeping an eye out on ebay and locally for people who are moving, getting out of the hobby, etc. as a means to get good gear/established systems for bargains. I spotted this on ebay (being somewhat local to me in Atlanta): tank in Augusta available I'm hoping I might get some advice as to whether or not this looks like a good system (in general, for a newbie, etc) and if the price seems right. Thanks! |

It's a nice looking tank. You wouldn't need the Bio-Wheels he's using.
It would be a tricky transfer, but at the price, I think it would be worth a try. Do you have any experienced friends who could help you with the transfer and set-up? |

Thanks for the feedback Reinhold.
Unfortunately I don't know anyone experienced with marine aquatics. That is part of the reason I am hesistant to move on this. Also, I would enjoy putting together a system on my own. The other side is that this seems like a good deal and having a decent sized system that has been (allegedly) stable for four years would be nice. |

The winning bid was $1010? That's too expensive considering that it's more fun to start from scratch.

I passed on it once the price jumped up. I'd rather learn as I put together my own system(s)!

Hi Beau!
What kind of system are you planning? Do you have any of the specifics worked out yet?
I think planning the aquarium is a fun part of the hobby. I have been reefless for way too long but have been planning a new one for a couple of months now. So far, I have only worked out 2 pieces of it; the lighting and the circulation. I am pretty set on teh size tank I want too. Planning and set-up reminds us one of the most important aspects of the hobby too.....patience! Good luck! Scott Z. |
