Pyramidal snails
I have a 6" derasa clam whose health is diminishing on a monthly basis. That's because it appears that I need to clean off the snails every night but this has been getting tedious.
Anybody know if one were to remove the clams, would the snails eventually die off and how long will this take? Or does these snails feed on other stuff? I really want to get some clams but this is one of the obstacle that I am facing. ![]() |

These type of snails will also feed on bigger snails(turbo and etc.). If you have these bigger snails in your tank then you MUST also remove the smaller ones from them! Sometimes a bigger tubro snail can just be covered! Check do you have any bigger snails??? Also a sixline wrasse will help control this problem.

I think I have one or two turbo snails left considering I have some evil hermit crabs in there. I really wanted to hold off on wrasses because I do like my shrimps but I might just isolate the derasa in the refugium. Mike make cleaning a lot easier.

There's several fish that you could add to the tank to keep the snails at bay (although once you take the fish out again they'll reammerge from under the rocks and such)
you could add a six-lined wrasse, a nice, colorful, pod-munching fish, or a juvinille Coris gaimard (clown wrasse) they are more effective, IMO, but once they grow up you gotta get them out, and get another one. As for them feeding on other things, There's nothing I've heard about, but I suspect they would paraticize any other mollusks in your tank. HTH RE |
