clam mantle receeding

I have a 6" squamosa that mantle seems to be receeding a little. I am wondering what may be wrong with it? It still opens and closes alot. Could it be from too much light? It is under 400 watt 20 k radiums, on the sand about 24-26 inches from light. Will it adjust? My water parameters are fine. O well any advice would be good. Thanks, unlisted

Unlisted,
Don't be afraid to take him out and giving him a good inspection. His shell for the pyrameliid snails and check his bysal as well cause things in your sand bed could be bothering the clam.I don't think the lights would be a problem, providing you have acclimated him properly.

No, it is a new addition. I put clam in about 2 weeks ago. looked good till about 4 days ago. It is first time with any clam problem. The only thing I can think of is lighting. I cannot shade him anymore than it is.

Keep us posted on your clam. How is your temp and pH? The reason why I ask is that you are running 400watter and they put out lots of heat. Clams are also senitive to pH swings. IMO

Can someone tell me what pyramid snails are as my clam which has grown well for a year has slowly stopped opening very much. The water parameters are fine for my sps corals, no nitrates and phosphates. The foot which secured my clam is now missing and I would like any help with this query, as I would like to salvage my clam.
Thanks
