LPS pics.

Since everyone is showing off their SPS, I will show off my LPS.

I have had this brain coral around 4 years. It has quadrupled in size. It is now over 10 inches in diameter.

Talking gorgeous Elegance

Gene,

All of them are beautiful, but esp. the Elegance. I poked around on your personal site a bit, after reading some of your comments in the clam forum. Is that the tank w your clams and your rose BTA or your other tank? How much light is it under? How long have you had it?

Hi Almostdiva,
It's in my other tank with mostly LPS and some softies.I'm glad you like the Catalaphillia. I've had it for about 3 some yrs. and it's only now starting to comeback after being almost dead.Well, not exactly dead but shot down and not opening much.I moved it in the beginning of this year to the current tank it's in and it worked. It's under 175w 10K ushio MH and vhos.I feed it about 4 times a week with some prime reef and home made seafood stuff. Here's one more pic of it just taken the food and closing down to eat

Wink Elegance

OK -- so would you recommend getting one or not.???.. I am just getting to the point where I am plotting about what corals, etc to add to the tank. I currently have a 55 g w a 5 inch DSB, a 20 gal long set up as a refugium and about 60 lbs of live rock divided between the 2. I probably have 40 in the main display. It's been "up" in this configuration since Feb. Fish are one long nosed hawk and 1 pearly jaw (had 2, had to move the tank, one comitted suicide). I was thinking elegance only, let it get huge and dominate the tank, then read all kinds of stuff about how hard they are to keep, and that most new ones brought into the trade are dying off.

Sooo.. then I thought I would upgrade lighting instead and keep a BTA with clams. You keep all 3 -- what do you think???. Current lighting is 2 65 watt 50/50 pc. If I did the clams/anemone, I would switch to 2 175 watt 10K MH. I was looking at getting the pendants.

Have any insight for me??

I would definately advice staying away from elegance.it's ultimately your choice, but given newness of the tank and their poor survival rate, why would you wanna watch it die in your tank...bta is a good beginners choice for the anemone and if you upgrade your lights I would try one.If you like to keep clams I would advice against anemone as they can travel and kill your clams and corals.I've been lucky so far but again, given another choice I would stay away from it becouse I realy like clams. Now I have to plan on setting up another tank just for clams and it's not sitting real good with my wife
Your set up with the light upgrade can host just about anything from soft corals to some clams.Read some more and ask whole lot of questions on this board it's wealth of info here.

Talking

Gene,

Thanks for the advice! EVERYONE says stay away from elegance (even people who keep them). So, with your input, that's like 9 against and maybe 2 for, so that's that. I WANT to keep clams. Dr. Mac and Sons is offering mated pairs of clowns with captive clone BTAs, which put me onto trying one.

I DEFINITELY want clam (s)! Just have to figure out what to put with them! I appreciate all the advice. I read this board almost daily at lunch -- like it MUCH better than reef central (everyone there was nasty, IMO).

BTW, where in NJ do you live? I am outside Phila and have yet to find an LFS I am in LOVE with. Have tried a couple that are pretty OK, but nobody I'd listen to without doing verification research.

Hi Almostdiva, no problem. I'm glad you doing the right thing and wish someone would guide me when I started out.LFS is a difficult subject since they in buisiness to sell stuff and I usualy take their advice with a grain of salt, unless you really know someone there and trust them. I live in central NJ about 45 min from Phily.I have a good LFS near me but they are on expensive side I think and I stoped buying from them. It's much better to trade or buy from your local club reefers or here on this BB.There is a few guys and gals here that have some of the most beautifull tanks you ever laid your eyes on I'm sorry they were nasty to you on RC.I stopped visiting there, unless I need to ask a question from Eric or Dr.Ron after I've done my searches and still need help.If you need more help you can always ask me or other people here that have much more knowledge then I.If you need advice on something in particular just PM me.Good luck with everything.

PS.You might like to check out
www.oceanencounter.com since Vince
is in Phily you might like his site.He offers lots of dry goods for exellent prices.(lights, skimmers, test kits and many many more...)
