Talking Your cukturing station

cukturing hehe

The number one thing to remember is never ever ever cross contaminate. Its ok to drip some phyto into the rotifers but one drop of rotifers into the phyto culture would wipe out the phytos in no time flat! Some ppl culture their phyto in a stair-step fashion where the phyto is above the rotifers....some ppl totally seperate them from each other....some ppl have multiple cultures and refresh half of their cultures at one time that way by the time the next batch of rotis and phyto are ready to culture they can tell if the first set crashed....Also try to enrich your rotifers before you feed them to your tank....you can enrich with some dense phyto for about 10-15minutes....You want to get their guts full...some ppl even use zoe or selcon...this makes your rotis much more nutritional.

Lookin good!

Very functional!

Ok im gonna throw some more things that you dont really need but comes in handy....sorry I should have given you this information earlier. I know you are wanna measure you density cultures. For $7 you can buy a density stick

Density Stick

and of course you will need a rotifer seive which will take the rotifers out of your cultures....DONT just dump the water into the tank...its loaded with ammonia and waste!

Rotifer Seive

And lastly here is Roti Rich which is a Rotifer supplement to enrich your rotifers full of nutritional value

Roti Rich

Oh yeah if you want a killer book

Plankton book

I have cultured rotifers and microalgae in the past. My setup was pretty similar to yours. Ditto on everything scubadude said. Be careful not to cross-contaminate. And here's another recommendation for the "Plankton Culture Manual." It's essential. Wilkerson's section on culture is pretty decent too.
