Kent Turbo Calcium

My Alk is at 2.5 meq/L and my calcium is at 370 ish. I've been trying to raise the calcium level for about a week and a half dosing Turbo Cal and it really hasn't moved. Basically I've been adding about 1 teaspoons for the past week each night and then checking calcium level the next night. Will I have to add quite a bit turbo before I can see much happen?

It depends what type coral load you have. Also how old is your test kit? It's pretty powerful stuff. Your Alk to calcium ratio is about right. If you run them both at the upper limits you end up chasing the numbers (which is too much testing work for me ). You will get very good growth with those numbers if lighting and other water parameters are also good (IME).

HTH,
Kevin
PS: Add 1 granule of the Turbo Calcium to your test vial at the end of the test process. If your test kit is working properly it should react strongly to the addition.

I have a 4" Squamosa clam - some soft corals - about 4 sps frags I'm trying to grow big. My frags are not really growing great but my clam is growing every week. The frag situation may stem from burning them when I changed my 175 watt MH's 20K's to 65K's. They are now begining to color back up.

keep in mind kent turbo cal. is calcium chloride the chloride is not intended for long term use.I would use kalk water instead.

Actually the Turbo is for long term use: the package says you can dose about 1/4 teaspoon daily or as required to maintain level's. Although I am dripping Kalk for top off Kalk additions alone will not raise the level of calcium I have found.

I am going to look into the level of magnesium in my system. This could also be a problem.

How much water do you change at a time and how often? Sometimes, magnesium levels can be depleted, causing the calcium solubility to decreae (the water can contain less calcium...)

Try a couple water changes, and if that helps, you can add some magnesium- Kent Tech M or a similar product. You could also try adding B Ionic (both parts, as that contains not only calcium carbonate, but other minerals (including magnesium) as well. It's best to test for levels, if you can...
