    lighting for clams

Hey guys, I have a 55 gallon tank that I just started putting reef into, I have a bubble, a long polup and a candy cane. I was wondering if I could get the Crocea or the Maxima clams to live in my tank if I put them up next to the top of the tank

I have JBJ power compacts, four 55 watt, bulbs two of which are actinic and a marine glo flourecent bulb.

Will it live or is it not worth my while

    thanks Jeff fenn

    Hi Jeff Fenn!

    Welcome to Reefland!

Clams can be successfully kept under PC's; in fact one of the members (ConnieH) wanted clams but never got them due to her lighting until she read this thread:
    Light Survey

The thing you will need to consider is not all clams sit on rock work so you'll have to be selective in what you purchase. On the other hand, your lighting may suffice for a clam sitting on the sand.

A squamosa should be allright in that lighting if you feed diligently withh DT's or another quality live phytoplankton. I definitely wouldn't try a maxima or a crocea. JMO

I have to agree with the Capt. I wouldn't put a Maxima or Crocea under those light.

In addtion to microplankton they use symbiotic aglea as nutriets and for the symbiotic algae to grow you need intense lighting or the mantles will start to bleach as the aglae will start to die.
