Question?
I have about 2" of pink samoa sand at the bottom of my reef tank. The size is 00 (like sugar). I want to add at least 4" of sand and make a DSB, Should I add more pink samoa or should I add reef araginote. My problem is that I don't think I can add a larger grain size than 00 due to the fine layer of sand already there. Am I wrong. I do not want to take out the existing layer of sand. Is there a good DSB substrate that I can add that is a 00 grade. Does it matter? I will be increasing the bed over time to 5-6 inches in a 155 bowfront. How much sand do I need? Thanks for thr help. Personally, I wouldn't worry about the grain size difference. I don't think any problems with it would justify the work and disruption of removing the existing sand. Just add about a half inch of sand a couple of times a week until you get it the depth you want. Maybe I'm wrong about this, so wait for some more replies before proceding.
